DID YOU KNOW? In 2016, per a study of nearly 13,000 practicing lawyers sponsored by the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs (CoLAP) and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, researchers found:

  • Between 21 percent and 36 percent of attorneys qualified as problem drinkers
  • Almost 28 percent battled some levels of depression, 19 percent experienced anxiety, and 23 percent struggled with stress
  • Attorneys in their first 10 years of practice—particularly at private firms—experienced the highest rates of alcohol abuse and depression
  • Younger attorneys have the highest rate of "problem drinking"

If you or a loved one needs assistance, contact the Missouri Lawyers' Assistance Program (MOLAP) at 1-800-688-7859. The program is free and confidential for attorneys and their loved ones.
