The National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being has defined occupational well-being as cultivating personal satisfaction, growth and enrichment in work, and striving to maintain financial stability. I like to think of it as simply enjoying what you do to make money.

What are some signs of occupational well-being?

  • Involvement in motivating and interesting work
  • Open communication with co-workers
  • Healthy collaboration with others
  • Sense of inspiration and challenge at work
  • Sense of accomplishment in work
  • Ability to work independently

How to improve your occupational well-being:

  • Set goals, create a plan to execute them and work towards them
  • Increase knowledge and skills to accomplish goals
  • Recognize the benefits and positives in your work life
  • Create connections with co-workers
  • Talk to your supervisor or HR if you feel improvements to the work environment should be made
