As lawyers, we are used to the ever-changing nature of the law. Before we submit briefs, we "Shepardize" cases and check for new statutory amendments.

It may be that new gender, and racial terminology, is as obtuse to the older among us as legal terminology is to non-lawyers. The law adapts to not only current events, but to new social norms. That is good. Of course, the reality is, as times and attitudes change, language changes, the new replaces the old, and the young replace their parents' and grandparents' generations.
