The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) officially kicked off its 2021-22 bar year on Fri., April 30 with a hybrid ceremony. Some members of BAMSL's 2021-22 Board of Governors and Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Executive Committee were sworn in at the BAMSL Bar Center in downtown St. Louis while others took the oath virtually via Zoom at 11:30 a.m. on April 30.
Nationally, Law Day is commemorated annually on May 1. The American Bar Association's national theme for the 2021 Law Day is Advancing the Rule of Law Now.
BAMSL's Law Day originally was scheduled for April 30, the official start of the BAMSL bar year, but has been postponed to Thurs., Sept. 9. The guest speaker will still be Journalist George Will, who originally was scheduled to speak at the cancelled 2020 Law Day celebration due to COVID-19. The ceremonial and traditional passing of the gavel from past BAMSL presidents to the new president, Robert Tomaso, will be held during the postponed gathering. Additionally, numerous BAMSL members will be honored during the traditional Law Day Awards Ceremony on Sept. 9.
Hon. Colleen Dolan, of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, served as the Mistress of Ceremonies as her husband, 2020-21 BAMSL President Hon. Judge Glenn Norton, passed the gavel to incoming 2021-22 President Robert Tomaso.
