St. Louis, MO – The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) is collaborating with the City of St. Louis to announce a gun buy-back program in the community.
BAMSL President Ed Dowd, of Dowd Bennett LLP, and BAMSL Executive Director Zoe Linza joined St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson, the Hon. Jimmie Edwards, now the city’s Director of Public Safety, and other community leaders at a press conference on Fri., Dec. 8 at St. Louis City Hall to announce details about the program.
The City of St. Louis approached BAMSL leadership about assistance with funding this project that is designed to improve the community. Individual lawyers, law firms and anyone else affiliated with BAMSL or the community in general who wishes to donate to this community outreach effort may do so via the Saint Louis Bar Foundation: http://donate.stlouisbarfoundation.org.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will collect guns from individuals as a way to get them off the street. Anyone who turns in a gun – no questions asked - will receive a gift card to Schnucks.
The current BAMSL leadership has been focused on attorneys serving the community in several capacities, including the Motion for Kids Holiday Party, St. Louis Attorneys Against Hunger initiative and law-related educational opportunities for citizens of the region.
“BAMSL leadership agreed that this was one program that fits into our commitment to service to our community,” Dowd said. “With the amount of gun-related crimes and murders occurring each day in our community, we felt this was one of the many ways we can participate in doing something to improve our city.”
With more than 5,500 members in the St. Louis region, including attorneys, judges, paralegals and law firm administrators, The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) is the oldest and most respected voluntary bar association in the area. BAMSL exists to benefit its members as well as to serve the legal profession and the public at large.
