Jennifer Macke, Esq.
Director of Legal Placement/Ad Sales
The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis
NOW IS THE TIME!
This is the phrase I want to shout to legal professionals in the St. Louis area who have been thinking of making an employment change in 2019.
Having operated BAMSL's Legal Placement Service for almost 15 years, I can attest this is one of the hottest employment markets I have seen. For months now, I have had more job opportunities than I can fill with qualified candidates.
I know spring fever is in the air here in St. Louis. Finally, right? With this, comes thoughts of the school year wrapping up and summer vacation plans.
Do not let your upcoming summer vacation be an excuse to put off your job search. In all my years of legal recruiting, I have never had an employer withdraw an offer due to a candidate having a pre-planned vacation or a wedding on the horizon. Employers know they must be flexible in this current labor market to hire top talent. If you wait until after your trip to Florida in July, the job market may not be as strong as it is right now.
Over the past few months, I have seen a particularly strong demand for the following experience:
- Dual-licensed civil litigation associates currently working for insurance defense firms (1-7 years of experience)
- Junior-level legal assistants and paralegals with med-legal litigation experience (2-5 years of experience)
- Corporate/transactional associates (2-5 years of experience)
- Dual-licensed, experienced plaintiff personal injury and workers' compensation attorneys
- Entry-level tech-savvy paralegals who have completed a substantive legal internship
The most desired candidates are those who are currently employed, demonstrate a stable work history, and provide solid professional references.
If you feel you are too busy in your current position to search for a new one; you are in luck. I will do most of the work for you. You just need to ace the interview and get the job!
So, if you have been feeling under-appreciated, under paid, or just need to make a change in your life; it's time to test the waters.
Please remember BAMSL's Legal Placement Service is free to all legal secretaries/assistants, paralegals, and attorneys seeking permanent legal employment in the St. Louis area. You do not have to be a BAMSL member to apply or be placed. All resume submissions are confidential. Plus, a resume will not be sent to an employer without the job seeker's permission.
Current openings can be found at www.bamsl.org/CareerCenter.
So, please upload your resume at www.bamsl.org/SubmitResume or e-mail your resume to me directly at jmacke@bamsl.org. I am always happy to speak with job seekers about current trends in the St. Louis legal market, give salary guidance, or review a resume, all free of charge.
