BAMSL is once again partnering with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis for a large food and PPE distribution on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 16) at the Urban League's headquarters (1408 N. Kingshighway). Volunteers and monetary donations are needed to make the event successful.

The 2022 Motion for Kids Holiday Celebration was held on Saturday, December 3, at Harris-Stowe State University's Emerson Performance Center. The celebration featured visits with Santa Claus, games with prizes, books, craft packets, sandwiches, and gifts purchased specifically for each child. Thank you to everyone who made the party a success by volunteering their time, donating gifts, or donating funds. With your support we were able to invite almost 2,200 children and their caregivers.

The Missouri Childrens Division (CD) is in a crisis. CD employs an insufficient number of case managers to handle abuse and neglect cases involving the children and the families of our community. Those who continue to work for CD are overworked and underpaid.

I am so excited to see you begin your careers with such enthusiasm and unique perspectives. What an absolute honor and privilege it is to practice law.

The loss of the Hon. Ruth Bader-Ginsberg was tremendous, and it was felt by women throughout the legal profession and United States equally. She was an inspiration to us all, serving diligently on the U.S. Supreme Court for 27 years. If you are familiar with her path to get there, you know it was not easy.

The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) recently launched an exciting new online platform designed to facilitate pro bono opportunities for lawyers throughout our community. The platform matches clients needing help with lawyers willing and able to provide lifechanging services to these clients, ultimately bettering the community through the generosity of the lawyers who participate.

Twice a year, I travel to Washington, D.C., as part of my board obligations for the American Association for Justice. I always carve out time to strap on my running shoes and take the same walk: my hotel to the White House to the Lincoln Memorial to the World War II Memorial to the Washington Monument down Constitution Avenue around the U.S. Capitol to the Supreme Court and back to my hotel.

Danny Barnett-Foster, assistant executive director of operations for The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL), has been appointed Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity (SOGI) Committee for the term of Sept. 1, 2022, through Aug. 31, 2023.
