The Saint Louis Bar Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL), honored five individuals during its 12th annual Spirit of Justice Awards Celebration on Friday, October 4 at the St. Louis Club in Clayton, MO.

Attaining great health is not a mystery, it's really a pretty simple puzzle. Despite that fact many individuals invest significant time and money trying to find a missing clue, or "the magic bullet." The solutions are staring us right in the face…and, as you probably suspect, you already know what they are.

It occurred to me that many of our members are probably unaware of some of the opportunities to volunteer to provide pro bono legal services.

So many of us feel stressed, fatigued, rushed and short on quality time. There are consequences for living in an overstimulated society. Sensory overload can negatively affect our physical and mental well-being.

You don't need special training to have an open, authentic conversation about mental health – and often, just talking about it can be the first important step in understanding where someone is with their mental health, and helping them get support or treatment if needed.

I am writing this column from the airplane on the long flight home to St. Louis and am seated with the newly retired Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, and a 12-year-old boy who just spent the summer with his uncle fishing in California.

It was not easy for Chris to ask for this meeting, but he knew if he did not, he could lose his law license, or his marriage, or worse, his life.

You went through all the reasons you need to exercise (more energy, lose a few pounds, keep up with the kids, etc.) and have finally decided you are going to start exercising. So, you put on your new gym shirt and shoes and suddenly it hits you: "What do I do? How do I know if what I plan on doing will help me with my particular reason for starting this?"
