Danny Barnett-Foster, assistant executive director of operations for The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL), has been appointed Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity (SOGI) Committee for the term of Sept. 1, 2022, through Aug. 31, 2023.

We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of BAMSL member Howard Stern Smotkin. Mr. Smotkin was honored in May with the BAMSL President's Outstanding Service Award and most recently served on the Finance Committee and Pandemic Task Force. His contributions to our organization were invaluable and his service to others will not soon be forgotten.

The Women in the Legal Profession Section (WILP) has organized a "Back-to-School Drive" for students attending St. Louis Public Schools. Donations are being accepted at BAMSL's Bar Center from now until Aug. 18.

Official immunity is a common-law doctrine relieving certain public officials from liability for acts of ordinary negligence committed in the course of official duties. Official immunity is intended to provide protection to those public officials who must exercise professional expertise and judgment in the performance of their duties.
