BAMSL to Celebrate Law Day 2025 with Luncheon and Recognition of Distinguished Legal Professionals
ST. LOUIS - The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) will celebrate Law Day 2025 on Thursday, May 1st, with its Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony. The event will bring together members of the legal community to honor the rule of law, recognize outstanding service, and usher in a new chapter of leadership with the official swearing-in of BAMSL’s incoming president and board of governors.
First proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958, Law Day is a National Day of Reflection on the foundational role law plays in upholding justice, freedom, and democracy. Every year, BAMSL kicks off the start of our bar year with a Law Day Celebration and Annual Meeting. During the celebration, an awards ceremony is held, the incoming board of governors is sworn in, and a luncheon is held featuring a keynote speaker. The speaker this year is James Clayborne Jr., a former Illinois state senator.
This year, BAMSL is proud to recognize the following honorees:
- Joan Lockwood will receive the E. Richard Webber Distinguished Lawyer Award, presented annually to a lawyer who has demonstrated exceptional professional achievement, integrity, and dedication to the advancement of the legal community. Lockwood, a veteran litigator and respected mentor, has long been a pillar of excellence and leadership within the St. Louis bar.
- The William Weiss Senior Lawyer Award will be awarded to Hon. Edward Sweeney, whose decades of distinguished service on the bench and within the legal profession reflect steadfast commitment to justice, fairness, and public service.
- Shaun Broeker will be honored with the Community Service Award for his dedicated leadership of BAMSL’s Veterans Committee. Broeker has helped expand programming and outreach that supports veterans within both the legal profession and the broader St. Louis community.
- Jon Baris, Dave Simmons, and Katie Doherty will each receive President Awards in recognition of their extraordinary service to BAMSL over the past year. Their contributions such as building member engagement to strengthening BAMSL’s signature events, have left a lasting impact.
- The John C. Shepherd Award will be presented to Thomas Powell, given to a young lawyer who embodies the highest standards of professionalism.
- BAMSL’s Young Lawyers Division Awards will go to Zach Brand, Alex Pawlowski, and Aaron Rankin, honoring their early-career leadership, professional excellence, and commitment to serving both the legal profession and the public.
Incoming Board of Governors:
As part of the celebration, BAMSL will officially install its new board of governors for the 2025-2026 bar year. The incoming leadership includes:
- President: Untress “Trez” Quinn
- President-Elect: Amy Rebecca Johnson
- Vice President: M. Graham Dobbs
- Treasurer: Lauren Collins
BAMSL extends sincere thanks to outgoing President Kevin Gunn and the 2024-2025 board for their dedicated service and leadership over the past year.
