I have been active in politics for a long time. My Grandfather was the President of the Board of Alderman in the City of St. Louis, My Dad worked on Capitol Hill, and I have worked on campaigns and as a Congressional Chief of Staff. I'm certain that with contentious political primaries, you have been bombarded with emails, texts, calls and even snail mail that has contained negative statements about political opponents. If one word captures the current political environment, I think it is: polarization.
