CLE: St. Louis' Mill Creek Revisited - Guided Tour at the Missouri History Museum and CLE

Join BAMSL’s History Committee at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, as we take a guided tour of the Mill Creek: Black Metropolis exhibit at the Missouri History Museum. We will explore Mill Creek as a Black metropolis, all that made it special, and its erasure from the St. Louis landscape.

The tour will be followed by a one-hour CLE examining the legal process behind the historic condemnation and blighting of property in this close-knit Black community, if due process protections were provided to property owners, and the remedies available once property is declared blighted or condemned.

2026 Annual BAMSL Golf Tournament

The 2026 BAMSL Golf Tournament takes place on Monday, June 15 at Glen Echo Country Club with an 11:00 a.m. Shotgun Start – Scramble Format.

Registration includes boxed lunches before start, 18-holes of golf, golf cart, post golf reception with heavy appetizers and drinks while prizes are announced.

2026 Corporate Counsel Institute - May 13

The 2026 Corporate Counsel Institute, presented by the Association of Corporate Counsel – St. Louis Chapter and The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, will be held on Wednesday, May 13, at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis. This event offers in-house counsel and legal professionals a full day of CLE-accredited programming, focused on corporate law, compliance, and emerging legal trends. There will also be valuable networking opportunities with peers and industry leaders.

Grossly Misunderstood: The Case for Avoiding the Use of “Gross Negligence” in Exculpatory Clauses – Including for Trustees

It is common for trust grantors to want to protect those persons chosen to serve as trustee by eliminating any potential liability for ordinary negligence. Missouri’s Uniform Trust Code expressly permits trustee exculpatory clauses, providing only that such clauses are unenforceable and ineffective to relieve a trustee from liability for conduct committed in “bad faith or with reckless indifference to the purposes of the trust or the interests of the beneficiaries.” However, instead of the language in §10-1008, attorneys seeking to limit trustee liability instead often provide the trustee’s liability shall be limited to “gross negligence.”
